Aloha guys! Getting back from Maui has been the HARDEST thing for me to do. Seriously, I’ve been to Hawaii 3 times now and every time I come home it gets harder and harder to return. I really just want to miss my flight home and say “screw it”. Who knows, maybe one day I will. You know what I miss most about Maui though, especially compared to Oahu? THE FOOD. I don’t know why it’s so different, but I had nothing but incredible food and drinks on this island the entire time we were there. If you’re looking for a full guide to Maui, you’re only half in the right place. Food seriously is half the trip though, right? Yeah, of course it is I’m so glad you agree! But if you’re wanting more adventures and travel tips on the island, then just be patient! I promise, I have so much more coming so soon.
Here is my list of the best food I had in Maui and where you absolutely HAVE to make time for if you get a chance! I had to slim it down a bit because I wanted to give some good insight into each location that I fell in love with, but there may be a part 2 in the future.
Planning a fancy dinner? I got you covered.
Merriman’s in Kapalua was hands down the best food I’ve ever had in my life. EVER. Everything there is farm to table or boat to table and is so fresh it’s insane. Yes, it is a bit expensive and a much nicer restaurant on the island. Honestly though, if you plan to go out even just one night for a super fancy dinner, please take my word for it and make a reservation here in advance. They are always booked weeks in advance and we are so lucky we got a spot at all, even if it was at 8:30 after the sun had set. If you can, definitely definitely DEFINITELY try to get an ocean view table during the sunset. The sun sets right in perfect sight from the restaurant and is right on the water where all the turtles spend their time. Lucky for us, our villa was right down the street from the restaurant and the beach it’s located on so we saw tons of turtles and cool fish in the water down below (snorkel in this area too if you get the chance!). Point is, the location and food could not be more perfect. I had their fish special, but my sis-in-law let me try her Kona Kompachi and it was hands down so much better than what I got (and mine was incredible y’all). Her hubby got the ribeye and this one I have no words for. He was nice enough to give us each a bite and it was the best ribeye I’ve ever had in my life. I could go on about this food forever… and I’m going to. Blake and I shared a bottle of wine (okay, two bottles of wine) and it was this really unique and super awesome riesling! When it was first brought out to us, we just thought it’d be like any other riesling especially because we were being cheap by getting the $68 bottle, but it was just as incredible as the food. It was the 2008 Pewsey Vale riesling out of Australia (you can see their wine list here) and I wasn’t joking saying we had two bottles of it. The restaurant’s wine sommelier was so knowledgeable and we later found out he was only one test away from becoming a master sommelier, and there are only about 158 of them in America so his job is pretty unique. He’ll more than likely start a conversation with you and was the most friendly guy we spoke with. The service was another super awesome piece to this fancy night. We had 2 servers (there were 9 of us) so it was nice to be taken care of fully and have two people with real personalities who were also extremely knowledgable. Seriously, I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant! Dessert? EVEN BETTER! We had the coconut creme brulee with macadamia nut cookies and I about died and went to heaven. Please don’t make me rant anymore about this restaurant, take some time to experience it for yourself and get a good feel of what this food is all about.
Looking to grab a quick coffee or breakfast?
You HAVE to stop by Island Vintage Coffee in Lahaina then! If you follow the blog, you guys know I’m a freak about smoothie bowls (and who are we kidding, I’m a crazy coffee lady, too). When you walk into this place, it instantly smells delicious and like heaven on earth. I usually hate waiting in long lines, but I definitely was willing to do that here because I was in major need of a good cup of coffee. While I was waiting and checking out their menu, a girl had walked by me with an açai bowl and it looked so refreshing to add to my vespa riding morning. I ordered that smoothie bowl and the yummiest cup of coffee, their Macadamia Nut Latte, and it was a great morning to enjoy in the sun on our last day in Maui. It’s officially the best smoothie I’ve ever had, it’s currently in first place! SO GOOD Y’ALL.
Did you know Maui has the best banana bread EVER?
If this isn’t an actual fact on the internet, then somebody is doing something wrong because seriously you guys its the BEST. I don’t know how to explain it — it’s moist and fresh and typically SO fresh it’s still warm from being baked. Oh yeah, definitely heaven and comfort food and all of the above! If you’re a banana bread lover, don’t get scared because it’s sold on the side of the road. I guarantee it’ll be some of the best you’ve ever ever had! A MUST TRY. Oh and it’s pretty cheap, whoop whoop! Bargain banana bread!!
Those fruit stands will be your best friend, especially on the Road to Hana!
I snagged some yummy banana bread on this drive, dairy free coconut ice cream, the yummiest beef sliders, boiled peanuts and the BEST pineapple smoothie I’ve probably ever had. I feel like I’ve said that like 6 times in this post already! Whatever, all the food is here is THAT GOOD. I love food in Hawaii. From the luaus to the fruit stands to the amazing Hawaiian coffee, I just can’t get enough. You could say I’m obsessed, it’s fine. I accept that.
Guys, I feel like this doesn’t even cover half of the amazing places to eat and enjoy in Maui! I have a feeling a second post will come soon, but there’s only so much I can put into one post, you know?! If you ever have any questions about where to get food or where to go, please don’t hesitate to ask! My good friend Hailey and her new fiancé are planning a trip there this year, and she asked me question after question and I was able to help out. I’ve been here so many times and this kind of conversation is right up my alley!
Where are you heading to eat first in Maui?! Aloha and ENJOY!
